Castiglione della Pescaia, European Town of Sport 2014

Castiglione della Pescaia, a beach resort in Tuscany's most southern province, Grosseto, was elected European Town of Sport 2014 and this event will not slip by unobserved in Castiglione della Pescaia. 

From April 12th until June 22nd 2014 no less than 54 sport events and competions are scheduled to take place, with numerous peripheral events.

These are the most important events, most of which will be organised in Castiglione della Pescaia or in Punta Ala, a town with a touristic port and a well known, panoramic golf court.

In this period Castiglione della Pescaia has also scheduled small scale events of less popular sport activities as sport fishing, checkers, horse dressage, hockey, rowing, kitesurfing, gymnastics.

Besides the sports events in Castiglione della Pescaia you will often find peripheral events, mostly in the weekend, like gastronomic stands with local food and drink specialties, hand craft markets, free music performances, and children's activities. 

Finally Castiglione della Pescaia will attempt to imitate the success of the Eroica, a vintage bicycle race in the Chianti area with no less 5.000 participants every year, with a copy of this race the "Maremmana" which will take place on Sunday 18 May 2014.

Also here you need a vintage bike to participate, with old style gear shifters attached to the frame, external brake cable routing and foot strap pedals. You are expected to show up in a vintage outfit and you can choose between two tracks, one of 40 km of which 13 km on non-asphalted roads, so-called strade bianche, or one of 97 km of which 35 km on gravel roads.
