Michelin-starred restaurants in Tuscany

The new Michelin Guide Italy 2015

In Milan earlier this month Michelin presented the 60th edition of its new Italian Michelin Guide. In this 2015 edition 332 of Italy’s best restaurants have been awarded Michelin Stars. The red guide is published in 24 countries and worldwide Michelin’s selection criteria are the same. Reviewers apply these criteria in Italy as they do in the UK, the USA or even Japan or China. This means that the quality of a 3-starred restaurant in Florence or London is the same, and so is the quality of a 1-starred restaurant in Lucca or in New York.

Enoteca Pinchiorri *** in Florence
Michelin's 5 principles are :
  • anonymous inspection: reviewers do not identify themselves;
  • independent inspection: reviewers pay their meals like all other customers;
the wine cellar at Da Caino** in Montemerano
  • selection: the Guide offers a selection of the best restaurants in all categories of price, with no preconception other than to meet the expectations of its readers;
Piccolo Principe** in Viareggio
Arnolfo** in
Colle di Val d'Elsa
  • yearly update: the guide is updated every year to guarantee the accuracy of the information;
  • a unique selection procedure, identical for all countries.

Michelin awards 1,2 or 3 stars and the signification, according to the Guide, is:
  • one star* - "a very good restaurant in its category";
  • two stars** - "excellent cooking, worth a detour";
  • three stars*** - "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey".
Bracali** in Massa Marittima
With its 332 Michelin-starred restaurants Italy is ranked 2nd worldwide, after France. In Tuscany alone 30 restaurants have been awarded stars, which makes the region 4th of Italy by number of starred restaurants.

Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence has been confirmed as the only 3-starred restaurant in Tuscany.

The 2-starred restaurants are
  • Bracali in Massa Marittima (GR)
  • da Caino in Montemerano (GR)
  • Piccolo Principe in Viareggio (LU)
